7 Moments to Remember

Over the years, my blogging style has changed, as have the reasons for it. Part of the reason is that all those little family moments I used to record on here are now posted on social media most of the time.

I love my "new blog", but sometimes miss being able to get a peek at our daily life as I read through the archives. I recently decided that the moments I really want to remember need not be lost on my timelines, or even just my phone memory. Thanks to modern technology, I can also keep a record here. So, this is the first "7 Moments" post, meant to keep track of some of those more special family moments.

Sunday, September 11

Tomorrow, we say goodbye to these lovelies. They are definitely the prettiest meat birds I've ever raised. Butchering day is always bittersweet, but I am grateful that I got to raise food for my family and that my chickens had a good life on grass and eating bugs. After doing this for years, I know that you can taste the love that went into raising them. Monday, September 12

That's a lot of mittens! I'm done knitting samples in different yarn weights and hand sizes for my "Just Plain Mittens" design. Now I just have to take pictures and tweak the pattern. Oh! And test the optional sewn fleece lining. Then it's off to my test knitters! . Yep, it's going to have a lot of options, as per usual. Last week, Jude caught a cold from school. It worked its way through Jabin and Noah this week. Today is the first day all my boys are back at school--and I sent Noah with misgivings, as he has been struggling with a perpetual cough since the cold he caught this spring and it is difficult to tell how sick he still is. (We're getting him tested.)

Wednesday, September 14

"They're still green!" All three of my boys said this in one form or another when they saw the tomatoes I brought in this week. "Shouldn't they be red when you pick them?" . I surveyed the twisted, withered remains of the vines that had so recently succumbed to frost--right on schedule for the Peace Country. . "Not when you live in the North and start your garden late. Not unless you have a greenhouse." . It's not so bad, really. There are plenty of other harvesting activities to do right now, so a delay on putting up tomatoes is actually a relief. . Jabin walked to Jason's office after school for some daddy time. While Jason had stepped out of the office for a few minutes to consult worth a coworker, Jabin used his label maker to do this:

As happy as Jabin was with the end product, he was very apologetic for using up all of Jason's label tape!
